Synopsis

On their twelfth birthday, two princes learn the secret behind the prosperity of their kingdom, Forsyia. The power their ancestors have wielded over centuries come from one woman, the goddess Caera. Cursed to live a half-life within a crystal prison, the goddess is raped for her magic by generation after generation of rulers. When Prince Veylan decides to rescue the goddess from her fate, and takes her away from Forsyia, he inadvertently sends Forsyia into decline, leaving his brother to clean up his mess. Can Starfa keep the kingdom from crumbling until the goddess returns? Can Veylan convince Caera to share her powers for the good of Forsyia? Or will the city spiral to its destruction in the wake of the goddess’s wrath?

Characters

Starfa: Starfa is one of the two twin princes of Forsyia, and the one that everyone expects will follow his father on to the throne. Stern and proud, he follows in the traditions of his forefathers, and is ready to rule with an iron hand. While he has many flatterers and admirers, the only person he would call “friend” is his brother, Veylan. He is very fond and protective of Veylan, even though he believes that his brother is simply wasting his life. He has no idea what is in store for him when Veylan gets an idea.

Veylan: Veylan is the other prince of Forsyia, who spends less time fighting, and more time cooped up in the library. Veylan was considered eccentric for his strange habits of reading for pleasure, and associating with the common people of Forsyia as well as the nobility, and for his radical ideas about changing Forsyia. The only normal friends he had were Dameon, the Duke of Witirlit, and his brother. When the time came for Veylan and Starfa to continue the tradition of their forefathers, Veylan decided to do something to rescue the goddess, and break her cycle of imprisonment and torure.

Dameon: Dameon is the only son of the Duke of Witirlit, but is often referred to as the Duke himself, as his father sent him to court in his stead. After finding himself at court, Dameon found the throng of courtiers fawning over Prince Starfa to be boring. Instead, he attached himself to Prince Veylan, whose attitudes and beliefs he found amusing, and a refreshing change from court. Because of his friendship with Veylan, Dameon was often accused of having no ambition in life, and the other nobles had very little to do with him, focusing their attentions on Prince Starfa. To his father's dismay, Dameon did not care, and focused his attentions on Veylan, and the pretty girls of Forsyia. Dameon never expected that his friendship with Veylan would sweep him into the intrigues of court.

Kestrame: Kestrame is a mistreza, a special class of servant that lives at the castle, and are paid to provide company and carnal pleasure to the nobility. Kestrame got lucky, however, and managed to land a huge client: Prince Veylan himself. As she spent more time with Veylan, the more she realized how her life could change if he sat on the throne. So she set about using all her wiles and charms to gain support for Veylan among her clients. Unfortunately, she does not realize that something much bigger than her schemes has started moving to have its way with the throne.

Caerassa: Caerassa was once a normal human girl, the daughter of one of the most powerful mages in Forsyia. When forced into a marriage with the king, she ran away instead. She was caught, however, and punished for her disobedience. She was cursed to serve Forsyia for eternity as its godddess, hidden away from the world, and having her magic sexually stripped from her by generation after generation of Meriune's descendants. When Prince Veylan decides to set her free, she has a grudge to carry out against his family.
